Congratulations to this year's winners!
This award is presented annually to one faculty member and one staff advisor from among UC Davis' four undergraduate colleges (Letters and Science, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Biological Sciences). The award is designed so that undergraduates can recognize professors and staff who have shown dedication to student advising. This Outstanding Faculty and Staff Advisor Award process is sponsored and coordinated by the Academic Peer Advising Program, 116 South Hall, (530) 752-9201. This is an annual award which is presented to the recipients during Spring Quarter.
The awards are student initiated and provide undergraduates the opportunity to recognize UC Davis faculty and staff advisors for demonstrating knowledge, care, and commitment in providing quality advising to undergraduates. Students nominate a faculty or staff member by writing an essay describing the nominee's merits and dedication to helping advise students as well as their availability and compassion. Originally, this merit was awarded to a faculty member in each of the four colleges. The student peer advisors who sponsor this program moved to include staff advisors as well because they are a vital component of a student's undergraduate education. When that decision was made, the award was changed to recognize only one faculty member and one staff advisor on campus, thus making it more prestigious and inclusive. Advisors were first recognized in 1981.
